Guess Who Came for a Visit?

Amy of Palos Verdes, CA and Bibi of Belgrade, Serbia enjoying the PV coastline
I finally got a change to meet my long time blogger friend "Bibi" of Yankee in Belgrade Daily Photo and of course the real Bibi. They are driving down the coast from Seattle and "Bibi" was so nice to come all the way down to PV to visit us. "Bibi" remembers the beaches and cliffs of Palos Verdes from her high school years, and it's fun to reminisce about how PV used to be.

Portuguese Bend Beach Club (transformed)

The photo was a rather dull beige taken on an overcast day in May of 2008. This treatment with upped satuartion reminds me of old-fashioned painted postcards.
Same photo with funky Antique Solarization treatment.

An Afternoon in Manhattan Beach (4)

On a warm fall day, this was the view from Manhattan Beach pier. The brightly painted art panels on the lifeguard stations will be coming off at the end of the month.

An Afternoon in Manhattan Beach (3) - FOCUS & Focused

FOCUS (self-explanatory) with an unfocused view of the beach looking south toward Palos Verdes

I watched the little girl for a bit and during that time she was totally focused on her task.

Day Tripping - Catalina on the Last Day of Summer

School starts tomorrow for Palos Verdes School District...That was one short summer, and if you don't believe me, just ask my son. We went on our annual day trip to Avalon on Catalina Island today, and as always, it was a lovely warm and peaceful day (except for the others during the time they jet skied).
The Casino (never a gambling place) is a the best known Catalina landmark.
The Avlon bay looking from the Casino side. Up on the hill is the Wrigley Mansion, which is now an exclusive B&B and very private property, not allowing any day trippers a peak... which is not surprising since the guests pay a minimum $450 a night.

The little beach at Avalon with our stuff by the palm trees. "Hello, down there." Taken from th road to the old Wrigley Mansion.

"W" is for Watching Water with Watchtower (abc Wednesday) - Ave I

Lifeguard station (or tower) at Redondo Beach looking toward Palos Verdes Peninsula, 19 June 2010
All 158 L.A. County lifeguard stations (usually a pale blue color), from Palos Verdes to Zuma Beach (of Neil Young fame), have been transformed for the "Summer of Color" community art awareness project. They really look festive. In the fall, each will be painted the solid color of the railing.
I'm considering photographing all 158 of them...we'll see...
See lots more "W" posts on abc Wednesday.

On a Warm Winter Day

From the Seal Beach Pier, 31 Dec 2009
This may be one of my first sepia toned posts - the scene just looked right that way. To view others visit MaryT, theTeach at Sepia Scenes Blog.

Togetherness

Even though it was a cool day, these siblings were having a lot of fun on the beach last Saturday.

Annenberg Community Beach House - Santa Monica

The upper photo reminds me of an architectural sketch. It offers a good view of the Santa Monica cliffs.

Chaise Lounge at the Beach House - Santa Monica

The pool at the Annenberg Community Beach House was closed...I assume for the season.

By amazing coincidence, the bikers in yesterday's post are Palos Verdes residents, Fran and Bob. Santa Monica is about 30 miles up the coast from PV, and this is only the 2nd time this year that I've been there...what are the chances of that! (My husband said 11,378,532:1 -- funny guy.)

Up the Bay at Santa Monica Beach (SkyWatch Friday)

It's nice to see that at least a few people enjoying a sunny October weekday at the beach. I parked at the Annenberg Community Beach House (a new facility that's open to all in the community) at Santa Monica State Beach. I'll be posting more from there in the next few days.

Cause/Effect on the East Coast (2 things challenge)

Cause: Many an all-American breakfast like the one at Poppy's Cafe, Rye, N.Y. ...
... Effect: Mighty deep footprints during the morning walk on the beach in South Bethany, Delaware. East coast sand is very soft ... really.
The photo is from last Sunday. Today, huge surf pounded most of this coast due to Hurricane Bill. The water covered the beach and reached some of the homes - reported by my son who is still there.

Sunset in Reverse - South Bethany beach, Delaware

This is my very first East Coast sunrise at a beach - a thrilling experience to see the sun coming up from the ocean and not at all too early to see (6:13 am). I wonder if there is a green flash right before the sun comes up. I did have company.
