Il PV-o

... these four guys, walking toward the Arty Party, made me think of a Southern Cal answer to a boy's band.
Remember when Il Divo was a big hit a few years ago?

Arty Party at Shriver Courtyard (Portuguese Bend)

The Shriver family hosted the party which displayed the artwork by family and friends. The Shriver Courtyard is a wonderful space for this.
Everyone looked arty and sophisticated.

En Plein Air - Portuguese Bend, RPV

This beautiful setting is within the exclusive gated Portuguese Bend community and opens to public once a year for the Arty Party (an art sale in the courtyard of the fabulous old mansion).
For the photo, I've upped the saturation for the "Plein Air" feel. More photos to follow.

Can you spot "her"? It's the last leaf sitting pretty in the tree.

A Hopping, Arty Place

A Starbucks afternoon at PV mall
Starbucks is a place majority of us love to hate - and end up there because it's THERE and it's warm and cozy. This one is livened up with "Mexican Tinwork Tiles" creations by 5th grade students at Point Vicente Grade School, as part of the Art at Your Fingertips projects bringing wonderful and diverse exposure to creating art at the local schools. An artist creates a project, teaches volunteer parents who in turn, teach the projects in the classroom. I've done that when my son was little and, in addition to being very rewarding, it reaffirmed my admiration for teachers' skills and perseverence.

Wednesday Doorways (Promenade on the Peninsula)

Red door - framed.
Off with their heads -- and tops too.
I always liked the pretty red doors of Talbots (a conservative women's clothing store) at PV mall.
Makes it all the more funny to see the mannequin in a state of undress.

What's cuter than 3 plush pandas?

Aren't the children adorable? A happy family at the PV mall.
"...it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." around here.

Purdy Birdy ...

... was strolling (with owner) on Cherry Ave. in Long Beach and had me screech to a halt, park and run after them.
In my haste, I didn't get the name of either one of them, but the bird proved to be a sensational showman. The young man said that hundreds of people have photographed his buddy.

All American Dining at PV Golf Course

Food truck at PVGC - Dec. 2011
The food truck does not match the elegance of the golf course but it's only temporary while the snack shack is being redone.

Landslide Viewing (Night Shots Monday)

Portion of Palos Verdes Peninsula slid into the ocean on November 21. A large section of Paseo del Mar in San Pedro is gone. ( LA Times blogs - Landslide San Pedro.)
I make a lousy news reporter. The area around the landslide has been fenced off for weeks once a sink-hole developed in the road. So, on the evening after the big slide, I could not get very close and then I only had a fixed 50mm lens on my camera. Here are some of the folks who came for the viewing along with me.

Missoni Miss

Missoni never looked as good as on my friend's darling grand-daughter. Photo credit goes to my friend too.
(I don't know if you've heard of the Missoni for Target which came out in September and sold out almost immediately. I was able to find this jumper which found the perfect owner.)
