Mystery Photographer at the Getty Center, LA

... or guess who came for a visit to LA?
For the answer, click on Birmingham (Alabama) Daily Photo.
A group of California bloggers had such a wonderful time exploring LA with Virginia and her host Judy.

A Bright Spot

We've had two gloomy days in a row, and I needed a bit of color.

Who moved my (Grilled) Cheese (Truck)?

In San Pedro, during October "First Thursday Artwalk", where art galleries and other businesses stay open late into the evening. Of the various food trucks, this one had the longest line but I didn't wait in it to taste the food.

VOTE

... I liked the diversity of name origins. I have a theory that a candidate's name does play a role in elections, especially with those that don't read up on the issues.
What do you think?

Sunday Morning at the Griffith Observatory

On this lovely, clear and sunny morning, we headed for the hills to look over LA Basin toward Palos Verdes from the Griffith Park Observatory and Planetarium (built in 1935, PWA Classical Moderne in exposed reinforced concrete, according to Gebhard & Winter in An Architectural Guidebook to Los Angeles).
And the view of the LA with Palos Verdes Peninsula way in the distance (hump in the center) and Catalina Island (hump to the right).

Portuguese Bend Gate House (3/4)

And beyond the courtyard door was an unexpected find. It seems that the building serves as a chapel now.

Portuguese Bend Gate House (2/4)

And now for the side view.
Oh look, an open door. Hmmm... what should I do?

Portuguese Bend Gate House (1/4)

On Sunday, the banner caught my eye and I stopped for a closer look.
It is on the original gatehouse to the Vanderlip's Villa Narcissa property, which is now at the entrance of a gated community of Portuguese Bend at Narcissa Drive just off of Palos Verdes Drive South.
(More at Maureen Megowan's Secrets about PV Peninsula)
I think that the Portuguese Bend Artist Colony painter Richard M. Humphrey created the campaign banner in support of Mr. Knight for RPV City Council.

Cape Cod Modern?

This pretty white house (with an ocean view) caught my eye especially because it is not at all like the many McMansions on the South-West side of Palos Verdes.
