"H" is for Heads, Hats, Handbags in Hermosa Beach (ABC Wednesday)

Spotted last night, in a vintage clothing store window, on the drive home from my night photo class.
Post inspired by Yankee in Belgrade (only "Bibi" posted real people!)

"F" is for Fish & Fish-net & Fingers (abc Wednesday)

Our son caught (and released) this rare California native -- a Golden Trout -- at a "secret fishing spot", a lake in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas that took a narrow axle 4-wheel drive vehicle to access.

'C' is for Canoe (abc Wednesday)

At Twin Lakes, Mammoth Lakes, CA (July 2010)
"Do you canoe?" Isn't it a neat word...which I always forget how to spell. We are heading to Mammoth this weekend and really looking forward to being there.

"S" is for Street Art (abc Wednesday in Culver City, CA)...or New ART Kids in Town?

Art by Herakut (German artists Hera & Akut) can be found at crossroads of Washington Blvd. and National.) The murals are really eye-catching (yes, pun intended) and I did turn around to get a photo.

More info can be found on Culver City Times Blog and The Dirt Floor.

'V' is for Verified and in a VW (abc Wednesday)

Today was the last milestone for the year for our son - passing his driver's lisence test...which he did. So no more "Drivers Wanted" for our VW Karmann Ghia.
Thank you all for the congratulations to him and the encouraging comments.

'U' is for Underside of USAF C-17

On Monday, after my son's last checkout flight, we had another treat with the C-17 Globemaster III - the USAF cargo aircraft - fly directly over Crystalaire airport. I assume it was heading back to its home base -March Air Reserve Base (as designated by the tail flash), in Riverside, CA.

"R" is for Rock (abc Wednesday)

The busiest approach to Palos Verdes is Hawthorne Blvd, coming from Torrance, and what I call "PV Rock" - the hill in the photo - towers over the street as it starts the climb up the hill. I took the photo in 2008 from the back seat of a Cessna 172 upon leaving Torrance Airport with my son and his flight instructor.

'P' is for Parasols (abc Wednesday)

On the grounds of The Getty Center in West LA. It's very hot here which is actually not unusual for this time of year. I remember playing hookie from classes during my first year of college, and going to Santa Monica beach for a day on Nov. 8th, 1976.

"K" is for Keramik ... Bauer Pottery Co. of Los Angeles

I often drive by treasure of an antique/junk store, Antique Effects, located in Lomita (2050 Pacific Coast Hwy), and the bright colors of Bauer Pottery always catch my eye. Every once in a while I go in. The store is packed and a mess for most part but the ceramics are very nicely organized. Just last week, I found a creamer of the original numbered Spode Gainsborough earthenware for only $24 (the set my husband had before we were married.) I did not buy any of the Bauer dishes but there is always the next time.

"Y" is for Yellow Alert (abc Wednesday) & Preserve-Hahamonga-Watershed-Park-Day

The view is of the Pacific and Catalina Island as seen from the winding PV Drive East as it rises above the cliffs, with the sign alerting the drivers of the hairpin curves. The bluff in the foreground is a development for large, expensive homes on Trump's property.
The real alert is in support of the Pasadena-way bloggers who are trying to preserve Hahamonga Watershed Park in Pasadena in its current wild, beautiful, and undeveloped state. "W" is for Watching Water with Watchtower (abc Wednesday) - Ave I

Lifeguard station (or tower) at Redondo Beach looking toward Palos Verdes Peninsula, 19 June 2010
All 158 L.A. County lifeguard stations (usually a pale blue color), from Palos Verdes to Zuma Beach (of Neil Young fame), have been transformed for the "Summer of Color" community art awareness project. They really look festive. In the fall, each will be painted the solid color of the railing.
I'm considering photographing all 158 of them...we'll see...
See lots more "W" posts on abc Wednesday.

"V" is for Vintage Vinyl (abc Wednesday)

My friend's neighbor was redoing the kitchen and ripped out this classic 60's vinyl (or maybe even linoleum) flooring. Not the best period in home decor, but I find the pattern very pleasing, in a nostalgic sort of way. Sort of like Courier font.
Join many more V's on ABC Wednesday.
Thanks PasadenaAdjacent, for the flooring post idea.

'M' is for Mustard Meadows

The area of Palos Verdes Nature Preserve that burned in last August's fire is recovering well, in full living color. The same area after the fire is shown on the Land Conservancy web page: pvplc.org/land/portuguesebend.
