Ines Thomé: Classical Guitarist at Palos Verdes Library

Ines Thomé, guitar (11 January 2014)
Ines Thome gave an outstanding performance last Saturday at the PV Peninsula Center Library.
"Ines has studied classical guitar since childhood in Germany. In 2013 she completed her masterr's degree with distinction at the Stuttgart State University of Music and the Performing Arts. She is currently a Graduate Certificate Program scholar with the University of Southern California. Since 2011, she has kept a busy performance schedule. In addition to being an accomplished classical guitarist, Ines is a lead electric guitarist with an all-women metal band which has released two albums." (inesthome.de)

Ines Thomé, guitar and YuEun Kim, violin (11 January 2014)
Ines was joined by YuEun Kim for the last piece.

The Classical Music Series brings "great music into the library" with a monthly concert through June, is organized by the dedicated young librarian Ashley Kagan, and is sponsored by the Peninsula Friends of the Library.

Mis-aligned

"Stellar Axis" (1992-1997) - Lita Albuquerque
I missed this April's sun alignment thru the Stellar Axis at the PV Main Library, however, I still get to enjoy the interesting sky view every time I visit the library.
(A cylinder (or “viewing tube”) slices through four floors of lobby space and jutts thirteen feet above the roof. The sun aligns directly overhead two days a year and fills a transparent onyx oval on the floor. See more pictures by clicking lita-albuquerques-zenith-of-stellar.)

Eggsperience Pancakes and Café Restaurant in Chicago (14 April 2012)
On a related "shape" theme, I also very much enjoyed the ceiling ovals and an absolutely delicious "Eleni’s Egg White Delight" omelette for an early morning breakfast during a recent visit to Chicago.

Color My World - Muralist at Work

Heather Soodak, artist at work at Miraleste Library, Rancho Palos Verdes, March 2012
A few Saturdays ago, while browsing thru the library, I almost ran into a sign "MURALIST AT WORK" and looked up to see Heather Soodak painting a lovely, bright mural in the children's reading area. Heather is very talented and very nice. She says she'd love to illustrate a children's book - which she would be excellent at, judging by the mural and the drawings on her blog, where she is documenting the progress of the mural: hsoodak.blogspot.com.
See lots of great murals worldwide at Mural Monday at Oakland Daily Photo.

Book Sale Today - Malaga Cove Library

I received an early Christmas present from my friend TJ today - a Kindle e-book reader which works just beautifully. But this doesn't mean that I won't be going to the monthly library book sales.

... do the panthers roam around?
At PV main library, during hours. (P.S. I am remiss in giving credit to the artist. I hope my library staff friends can add the name in the comments.)

'P' is for Pretty People at the Public Library (abc Wednesday)

Snapshot of the RED floor, Seattle Central Library, 4 May 2010
I'm away again, this time for a really quick business trip to Seattle...but I did have a chance to see one of my favorite buildings - Seattle Central Library. The whole structure is visually interesting and well worth a visit.
