Ralph's Supermarket, 2001
The supermarket is in the city of Santa Monica, about 15 miles north of PV. The building's colors were just wonderful and I snapped the picture you see below from the car. Later, I went back and took more photos.
The building also caught the eye of the authors of An Architectual Guidebook to Los Angeles. "Ralph's Supermarket, 2001. Olympic at Cloverfield. ... impression ... of Charles Moore. ... the colors, ... suggest Ricardo Legoretta. But the provenance is local. Not great architecture, but it doesn't take itself seriously."

mmm ... architecture that doesn't take itself seriously ... ouch ... I read a most entertaining article about architecture in our main morning paper today ... http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/in-search-of-a-room-to-swing-a-cat-and-a-soul/2009/01/14/1231608791770.html
I like the colours in these photos and especially the colours and composition of the top one!!
Perfect in colour and design.
... and I'll give you a little help for the next ABC Wednesday with a "Z".
1.
ZIP Code - Lots of places in the world with "ZIP-codes"
2.
Zinfandel (ZIP-Code 94567)
is a small unincorporated community, located at 38°28′58″N 122°26′32″W / 38.4826871, -122.4422017 in Napa County, California just south of the city of St. Helena in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
3.
Zinfandel - my favourite grapes for californian wine.
I think we start with an "A" next week, sorry it will take a long time to use the "Z".
Hallo from Germany
Hartmut
So colorful..
It really warms me up!!
I do like that first shot.
Oh, I should probably just go away and not say this at all -- but these are my headache, nightmare, high anxiety colors. Wonder why we differ? Everyone else responding liked them. Maybe it's the way our individual brains process these colors?
I love the colors in these buildings. Beautiful shots!
I like the colours of the building and the composition on the 1st pic. Great!
Great colour and reflections!
See? It's the brain thing.
Very nicely composed image there.
Nice photographs and nice reflection. It's just a timing that yesterday I too posted a building with reflection in the window.
I love the first picture. The colours are indeed amazing.
Brilliant colors. Super shot on the first image, Tash! Seems a hundred years ago when I shopped at Ralph's and went to SMCC.
I've passed this Ralphs often on my way to visit the galleries and the co-op market. I remember seeing the work of an unknown but clever attention seeking artist thrown over the power lines of the intersection (in the same manner kids throw their shoes over the lines).
I'm sure Glasgow would be less depressing in winter if the buildings were these gorgeous colours!
I hate that AH gets a headache from the top one cause I LOVE it so!!! WOW
Yeah, you are true that the building's colors were just wonderful...
I just came back from some late night, emergency grocery shopping. How I would have loved to have visited here. The colors are in my palette. Love it.
Thanks for letting me know about this post: I had missed it on my route. Interesting comparison with the one on my blog yesterday. :-)
