A Bright Spotlight - PV Library 80th Anniversary Gala

The bright tile mural, by Gemma Tacconga and her son Zen Del Rio, is located in the entry to the gallery room in the basement of the historic Malaga Cove Library. It commemorates the Trustees of the library from 1928-1978.

In early February, the PV Library celebrated its 80th anniversary. These five women and many other volunteers made the celebration event and fundraiser a great success.
I'd like to give a special thanks to Fran Wielin (board of trustees President) for including my photos (many of which have been on this blog) in the program (I am published now!), and to both Fran and Kathy Gould (PV Library District Director) for being followers of PV Daily Photo. Kathy's excellent 'director's blog' can be linked to HERE.
Janey Jones (president of the Friends of the Library) is my Miraleste Library Book club buddy and I also wanted to mention my friend Julie Sulman, who brought me into her Neighborhood Book Club, and who is an active supporter of the Friends.

That mural is beautiful! I love the colors and design. Happy ladies in the photo! I am surprised though that one is wearing a fur, which is a no-no in most circles these days!

Congratulations to you for being a published photographer, and for contributing to your community, as do the volunteers who do the important work of supporting the library.

The colors of the tile in the art you have featured today remind me of Klimt's famous painting "The Kiss."

Yay Tash! They must have taken my advice. Now we'll get other publications on board.

It's good to see a library that's doing well with so may distraction like the Internet. I remember in high school when I would go to the library for research and to hang out with friends. Probably many young people today don't do that very often. - Margy

How did I ever miss this party? Excellent!!!!

Isn't it great to be published on actual paper (and be filed in a card catalogue in a library)?? and I adore the way you put this post together with the newspaper photo and text from the 70's. The woman in the middle seems to be a bit overdressed for the occasion.

the mural tres 70's...how fun

Congrats! Isn't it a great feeling? It doesn't surprise me that you're deeply involved with the library, anyone who loves books as much as you do, well, where else would you put your energy??? By the way, I've started "Dictionary of the Khazars: A Lexicon Novel", the female version. You know anything about that?
