While Away from Home: Obernai, France

Obernai, France - Sept. 2007
No, I'm not travelling in France. It's only wishful thinking. We are away for a ski weekend at Mammoth which is very nice in itself. While away, I thought I'd share a couple of favorites from a 2007 whirlwind business trip in Europe.

I adored everything about Obernai - Le Parc Hotel, the streets, the buildings, the tower, and the cathedral. The photo above was taken during an early morning walk - what a delight!

Oh! This makes «Louis» wish he were once again in la belle France!

He noticed the sign in the boulangerie: Touts nos pains au levain, which means the breads in that boulangerie are all made with the levain starter rather than with commercial yeast. Pain au levain is similar to what we call sourdough in the U.S., but is not as sour. Like sourdough, it requires a starter that is fed and nourished like sourdough starters aux États-Unis.

It gave new ideas now for us, thanks so much!

This city is wonderful, we didn't know!

I certainly enjoyed going back through your posts. So many thoughts, memories of the old 'hood.
Id love to ave skiied w/ you in mammoth. There is a reason why I live in Bend! yet as you ca imagine snow is far from my mind, although there used to be skiing in Bo,ivia until global warming.(interesting, the word verification is "viver" Spanish "to live"

Looks romantic, even if it was a business trip.

What stunningly beautiful night time photography. The Patisserie is indeed inviting. Makes one want to order a croissant or a sweet pastry, get a cup of espresso and sit down to enjoy.

I used to ski Mammoth all the time when I lived in SoCal. We always stopped at the Schat's Bakkery in Bishop for treats on the way home. US395 is still one of my favorite highways.

Looks like I will have to add a couple more places to my list of things to see while over here!
