La belle Libelle - Llano, CA

The guys purchased an expensive new (but old) toy earlier this year - a 1971 Glasflügel H-201B Standard Libelle sailplane (or glider). They are off to Crystalaire today to fly in chilly weather (below freezing at 9 am).

My son I. - ready for take-off.

"I gotta see a man about a sailplane." Instructor M. and my husband P. talking sailplane talk.

Update: "Glasflügel" is German for "glas aerofoil" and "Libelle" is German for "dragonfly" - thank you, Martina!

Looks like it should be fun...except for the cold. After many years in a tropical climate anything less than 70 degrees is bone chilling to me. :)

It's really beautiful, but scares me! I am a nervous flyer.

I am not sure if that's of interest: "Glasflügel" is German for "glas aerofoil" and "Libelle" is German for "dragonfly" ... so it might be the dragonfly with glassy wings - very poetic ...

Sorry, couldn't help myself ;-)

This looks like fun. Maybe you could persuade them to take some aerial photos for you to post.

Sail plane ... why sail? Is this what we call a glider?

Sounds like so much fun. No idea where llano, ca is, but omg the picture of Torrance beach. Must I tell you how many days I spent there as a youngster. Of course I loved to body surf and walk around from there to the rocks and tidepools. Tash, thanks for your kind words and support. lee

This is a wonderful glider, I really envy them. I hope the aircraft is camera equipped!
Dragonfly is 'libellula' in Italian.
