Archery Range...

...finally found.
When I started this blog last May, one of the early comments was from Pasadena Adjacent about liking to go down the cliffs past the archery range and end up on the shore at Abalone Cove. I had no idea where this archery range was until, a week ago, while driving along the undulating, landslide section of Palos Verdes Drive South at Portuguese Bend, I spotted an hawk on a tree & tried to turn around. As I swung onto a small dirt road turn-off, the sign was staring me in the face.

When I peered over the edge, I saw the lanes of the range on a intermediate plateau and lucked out to see a club member perfecting his skill.

Two fascinating shots, the first one has more in majestic stillness what the second has in latent dynamism.

ah yes the things you find by accident just by going off the well known track.

Your city has really guarded the beauty of the coastline. Too many of these views are gone now.

And you quickly discovered there is nowhere to park. Actually there is a pull off above the AC turn off but then you have to walk on the streets (under construction) to get to it. I do of course cause I'm an idiot. Anyhow, when you get down into the archery range look back up and you will see two small modest houses. They're abandoned due to the shifting coastline and the damage is visible...

thanks for the mention(Happy A? 444)
btw: you can join the archery range for a small fee and have access to the road

What a beautiful area...it's nice they have a sign there, too, unless one should wander into danger...

I like the afternoon light in the large image, Tash. What I find fascinating in your text is the names of all the places: so exotic sounding.

I like the ruggedness of the coastline: reminds me of our own.

I drive by it almost daily, but never stopped to look over the edge. Cool!

Archery is a fun sport, it's like throwing darts, except you're outdoors.

LOL! I suspect it would be good to know about this. It would be quite painful to stumble on it by accident. Thanks for the warning :-) I love the photos.

The curve of the land in the first photo is almost hypnotic...it is beautiful. I am certainly happy that you stayed out of range of the archers in the second photo.!
