Mall Defense
The Northrop F-5E fighter aircraft was on static display at the mall during the PV Peninsula fair held in early June. The airplane belongs to the Western Museum of Flight, located at the Torrance Airport.
"Attention Mall shoppers. We have a fighter jet parked in a no parking area. The owner of the jet needs to move it immediately. Also, GAP has just marked down all of their summer polos, so get them while the colors are hot!"
Growing up as an air force brat, and living in 7 states and Japan as a kid, I spent a lot of hours looking at and listening to different aircraft.(The sound alone, even today, is enough to make my head jerk when a plane passes overhead.) Love seeing this jet. Very cool. And great that kids can climb all over it.
I appreciate you visitng Tampa DP. The connection between two bloggers such as LOIS and I in different cities is always wonderful. (My dad was stationed at the Los Angeles Office of Information in the 1960s - at Sunset and Vine in Hollywood. We lived in a neat home on the hillside in Pacific Palisades and I had an aunt and uncle living then who owned the GullsWay estate on PCH in Malibu. (The gates are still there) It was willed to Pepperdine and then Dick Clark bought it a couple of years ago. I could see Palos Verdes from my parent's bedroom balcony...and even Disneyland's lights.)For a military brat, to be "stationed" so far from a base, in such a great place, was a unusual treat. Southern California, and where you live, as terrific places.
That's neat Tash! I would love to be able to sit in that cockpit. I'm glad you like my old photos. I have about a million of them. My favorites are some of the older portraits taken in the 1800's of my relatives. Unfortunately they didn't label all of them with names so I have to sometimes guess who they are.

Some funny comments. The malls need to attract customers and they'll do just about anything to bring people in...
That's OK, except when the stuff gets in the way and jams up the traffic pattern...
I can imagine this would be a fun item to look at, especially for the younger set, like myself! ;-)
You outclassed my post: there you park planes on the sidewalk!
It must be interesting watching this!
Congrats, nT!! You've always been an award winner to me.
Ever been to the graveyard of aircraft in Tuscan? I'm betting you have.
I don't think this one will be flying off anytime soon. Good that they display the old timmer though.
