Smoke over the Pacific

Fires raging in So Cal have been devastating to so many people. The lovely, tranquil view shows the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island in the distance viewed from above the Trump Golf Course. The smoke from both sides came in and merged overhead as I drove home from visiting a friend in San Pedro. A brush fire broke out by Rancho Palos Verdes' City Hall on Saturday morning and was luckily put out very quickly by the firefighters.
. . .
The pretty flowers are the landscaping by Ralphs market on Hawthorne Blvd.

Oh, Tash! I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. We lost our home in Hurricane Ivan and know what devestation is like. I hope you and yours stay safe.

I've seen the fires on the TV news here. I hope they are under control soon.

Lovely flower photo.

I hope those fires are stifled. This is to beautiful to be ruined.

I hate seeing air like that. Our forest fires in June and July had us choking for quite a while. Let's hope the winds calm down soon.

Fires are always a threat in your area; I remember when I lived in the Valley near Calabasas that the same was true. And Ralph's Market! A blast from the past!

The air is so bad here the San Gabriel mountains disappeared into a smoky haze. I don't remember coughing this much with any wildfire season. I really hope things settle down. 1000 homes gone. It's hard to comprehend -- and after the last few years of bad fires, too.

Look how peaceful the ocean looks. I hope they get the fires contained soon. So sad that so many homes have already been lost.

Thanks for checking on me :)

Thank you for the nice comment on my blog.
But first of all I hope that people in California will get the chance to stop the fires pretty soon.
I drove through one of this fires in 2004, I was a firefighter in the biggest fire we had in Germany/Hannover area in 1971 and we lost our farm, but for an other reason.
Yes I know what people are feeling when they are fighting against force of nature an when part of their identity get lost for ever.

This is such a strange light.. beautiful and at the same time menacing with that cloud of smoke covering the sun...
Hope you are ok and, if the wind calms down, they can manage to stop those fires.

I second marie-noyale who came before me.

I've been reading about the fires and hoping and praying that the wind will drop so firefighters can get on top of them. The smoke has made for a very beautiful, eerie photo opportunity though.

It's so sad to see the television coverage of these awful fires. Your photograph is beautiful if you don't realise it's smoke we are looking at. Well it's still beautiful, of course. So many people have lost homes. Well done for your postings.

Both beautiful shots! Interesting how something so devastating can also make for such beauty!

Those fires were scary. The Fire department told me that we had a fire at Hawthorne and PV Drive West too. It was raining ash. Very scary. Great photos.

The only good thing about the fires is that you got that beautiful shot!
