Pelican Dance (Sky Watch Friday)
Pelicans cruising over Bluff Cove. Visit the Sky Watch FridayHome Page and see the other participants from around the globe.
Hi Tash - Our paths cross again. Have a margarita for me at the Red Onion. Cool pelicans. Just for the fun of it I had a seagull post yesterday. We have herons, but I haven't seen a pelican here in Powell River yet. Great post. -- Margy
These guys have a great choreographer. (And a darned good photographer.) Curious, the bird right and mid-under have beaks pointing toward heaven, and birds left and mid-top perhaps have less lofty goals in mind.
Saw some pelicans the other day at Blackpool Zoo - it was belting down with rain and neither they nor we were very happy - didn't stop to photograph them!
We have white pelicans which summer in the Yakima River area. They seem to be rather social birds--I don't think I have ever seen just one on his own. In flight, I have not thought of them as dancing--more a precision flying team like the Blue Angels except quieter.

They really are quite elegant flyers aren't they?

I love the birds in the shot.
whoooooosh, swoooooooop, wheeeeeeeeeeeeee....
They might look a little clownish but there is nothing daft about their flying. Pure poetry.

Pelicans create a more comical silhouette compared to the more delicately boned egret friends
Beautiful. Great photo!
I like the two in the middle:
looks like a Ballet...or 2 acrobats on a trapeze.
What a stunning picture - absolutely fantastic.
Awesome!! I've seen birds flying before ofcourse but never the sillouete of pelicans.
I never even knew pelicans flew! I thought they were like Ostriches!
This is a glorious shot, this is a great blog, and you are a wonderful person.
This is a beautiful shot....the true beauty of pelicans revealed in this shot.
Oh Tash, this is stunning. Simply amazing that you were able to capture them in silhouette like this so clearly. Beautiful!!!
