Sweet Gum Sky

In front of Peninsula Community Church.
Sweet Gum
A plaque by the tree read this: Liquidambar styraciflua - 'Festival' "storax tree" "gum"
"Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Take fragrant spices - gum' " Exodus 30:34

I think they added that gum part to justify their landscape. Olive trees don't grow well on the coast

Geez, PA - now I have to do research. Here is what one web site that sells Holy Incense says: "Stacte: There are many different interpretations about what plant or tree Stacte is. We believe it is Storax or Styrax. This is a gum resin, but can also be obtained periodically in a powder form the bark of the tree. The gum resin has a chemical type smell. Again it is typically used as a fixative in a fragrance compound or formula. When blended correctly it will create a interesting balsamic aroma." They claim "We have spent over three years researching and praying about the ingredients and methods used in biblical times to make the Holy Incense." PS - olive trees are doing fine in PV...my mom drove into one in our complex about 17 years ago, but that's another story.

Mother Nature does have a way with color. The vibrant reds and gold against the breathtaking blue sky is ... well breathtaking.

I've got one of these on the parkway between the sidewalk and the street...also known as liquid amber trees (couldn't tell you why). Ours is still pretty green...one side just beginning to turn to its autumn colors.
