I Can See for Miles - PV from The Getty Center

I had an hour to spare today between appointments in Westwood and spent it rushing around the marvellous Getty Center. Makes me wonder why I don't visit it more often. LA is having another heat wave with some smog being pushed out toward the ocean by the warm Santa Ana winds. In the distance, the Palos Verdes peninsula is the darker hill on the right left, and farther left right is Catalina Island. (Thank you Petrea & Bratcat for knowing the peninsula vs. island. :)
The Getty was built using Italian travetine with the facades alternating between the rough natural look and smooth polished surfaces.

The Getty is an absolutely beautiful building. It's almost worth going there just for the architecture, and the art is a bonus!

Are you sure it's not the PV peninsula on the left and Catalina further right?

I really need to take a visit to the Getty Center. Silly to live so close and not do it!

I love the grounds, including the gardens, as much as the artwork, which sometimes is a little to stodgy and academic for my taste. But I keep going.

I had the same orientation question as Petrea. This is an intriguing composition. You really invite the viewer into the distance by framing with those columns.

Every year for the past 8 years, the Hubman and I have attended the Getty's Public Safety Appreciation Night...it is always an elegant party outside with scrumptious food in various spots...wine and beer...and a jazzy, salsa type band playing...it starts at 6 during the summer and so we walk about talking to friends and acquaintances, listening to the music and drinking in the gorgeous surroundings as the sun goes down...oh, yeah...and we occasionally get in to see the exhibits!!!
It's one of my favorite events of the year!!!

an hour? that is breaking records.

Mr V and I got a behind the scenes tour from the head conservationist. Even paid for lunch (now if we could get a restoration grant for "Isle")

I've only been to the Getty once, but I loved it! It's one of America's finer museums. Nice photo, Tash.

Lovely vista. One of the things I miss most in Florida are the California hills and mountains. South Florida is rather flat and in order to enjoy a sweeping vista one has to journey to the top floor of one of our taller buildings.
