'L' is for Lunada Hardware has Lumber

Lunada Bay is one of the original 1920's planned developments in Palos Verdes, along with Malaga Cove and Miraleste - however, once the Depression hit, most of the grandiose development plans were stalled. The charming Lunada Bay business building, which houses the good-ol'-fashioned hardware store, was built in 1967 by Clark, Hendrickson, and Knox (architects) and Robert Zicarro Construction Co. (builder).

I like seeing all the vegetation growing in these photos. I didn't realize planned communities started back in the 1920s. Looks like this one has turned out well.

It's hard to find a true hardware store anymore. I agree, that tile work is fantastic. Great colors.

I'm glad they didn't re-develop all of Old Palos Verdes. But I wonder if those tiles are period or not. Anyhow, every one loves an old fashioned hardware store. We have the one in Eaglerock. We used to have one on the corner of York and Ave 64

Big box hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes really hurt the little neighborhood hardware store, but some have managed to survive. I think they have far more charm, not to mention service, that the big box stores.

And yes it is lovely cobalt blue, white and yellow tile work on the front of the building (a touch of Mediterranean, Moorish, Moroccan)...it was the first thing that caught my eye, and apparently everyone else's also.
