Art, Artists and Friends
Fran Wielin, a trustee and VP of the PV Library District and an avid bike rider, reminded me a few days ago about the art show opening. I especially enjoyed meeting Fran for the first time, as well as Kathrine Gould (the director of PVLD & a fellow blogger PVLD Directors Blog, seeing Janey Jones (from my Miraleste Library Book Club) who is incoming president of the Friends of the Library, and meeting two artists whose work I noticed earlier in the week.
Deborah Weir is a wonderful artist working in "Fine Art Textiles". The photo does not do justice to the shimering quality and intricacy of her work. See more of her textile pieces on her blog: FIBERFLY. She will be presenting her work along with two other textile artists at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center Gallery from Jan 22 - March 7, 2010.

Jonathan Bray painted the expertly done and evocative "My Favorite Place in the Library". I asked him where that was (silly me) and it was the art section - of course. He is a UC Davis grad and here is a quote from a web site where his work is displayed "we make our way through life like thread passing through fabric, giving shape to images that we ourselves do not know".

It looks like it was a great event at the library.
Ditto above. And, I like the colors in these shots.
Wish I had been there. I love to go to galleries, and some of this work looks like something I'd like.
Speaking of having a way with words, not only does that young man know how to turn a phrase, he also has the enviable talent of expressing himself through his art.
If you are in a book club, what have you been reading? We are reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog. A fine book. We've been together 15 years.
Looks like a fun evening. I think those two shots could be used as part of the 100 Strangers Series!
Ja, I too liked the faces, and the work behind them.
oh lucky girl!
Fabulous event indeed!

You know that I'm behind your art viewing. The Brand library has an art gallery (I saw a show by my treadmill friend John Kilduff there)
Great quote from Mr Bray
Everyone looks joyful, I think you conveyed the mood perfectly. It's so enjoyable to see people happy with their work.
