The black section of the facade on what was originally Home Savings, then Washington Mutual, now Chase (on Hawthorne Blvd) used to have a wonderful mural by Millard Sheets (whom I recently learned about from Pasadena Adjacent). The mural was covered up for about 2 years and has now been removed for restoration (sigh of relief). A 1970's photo of the mural can be found here: Claremont Colleges Digital Library - Mural by Millard Sheets.

That's great! I love it when things like that get restored.
Yes, it is great when things are restored and it's a fabulous mural!
Have a great day!

What a wonderful night shot. Nice job!
Thanks for the link too.
I've got a challenge for you over at my blog!
cool long exposure shot
Thats interesting how they stuck the dolphins on the mosaic wave. I wonder if the Millard Sheets estate approved of it.
This is kind of interesting. There's a Millard Sheets exhibition Hall on the Pomiona Fair grounds with a Sheets sculpture out front that looks a lot like "Horse with no name" who now has a name (or at least an author) thanks to your cracker jack detective work.....
I remember Home Savings and their murals. Thanks for jogging my childhood memories.
A very original M. I am glad the mural is missing for a good reason.
Mystery SOLVED! Yay!
Glad to know they did not destroy it.
