Neptune at the Plaza

Neptune fountain, a 3/4 scale replica of the bronze original in Bologna, Italy is located in the center of Malaga Cove Plaza. The fountain was first installed in the 1920's and replaced in 1969 with one additional alteration from the original - anyone care to guess what it is? (Hint: It's not the soda can on the trident.)

This is a great statue ... the alteration ... is it a seashell?

"Louis's" guess is that Neptune was made more (ahem) modest....

I bet his genitalia was covered up. I remember being with my family on a "long drive" from Long Beach and seeing this fountain back in the late '50s. It's a lovely photo. To see other photos from the other side of the hill visit http://dailyphotofromranchopalosverdes.blogspot.
