Spring Carpet

It's that time of year again... ice plant blossoms cover bits of the hillside along Hawthorne Blvd. in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Wow. A different type of lavender fields.

This is an amazing field of pink, Tash. I don't think I was ever on PV when these fields were blooming.

Such vibrant color and so lush, it is like a carpet.
Yes even the lowly ice plant (sedum) has its moment of glory when it is covered in flowers. Most of the time it is simply green and inconspicuous, unnoticed and ignored by those driving by day after day.
Reminds me of that old movie "Cactus Flower" with Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman, and Goldie Hawn. :)

How very pink. How long do the flowers last?

Not just another pretty flower. We know that ice plant also prevents erosion of the fragile dunes. This understanding adds to their beauty, don't you think?
