South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes is unusual as it was built on top of a landfill. See more at http://www.southcoastbotanicgarden.org/gardenhistory.html.
The garden recently "adopted" our 10 foot Redwood, that we grew from a seed (from "garden in a can" bought at Muir Woods) - even better than adopting a highway.

You grew it from a seed? That's a great effort!
That gives "tree hugger" a new meaning. Muir Woods is an amazing place to see.
Very cool. My seedling eventually gave up on me due to my intermittent care. I've passed these gardens but have never stopped by. One day I will.
Un beau jardin sur un tas de déchets, c'est une bonne idée ! Cela se fait aussi chez nous.
Mais il faudrait commencer par réduire la quantité de déchets, of course !
Tash, thanks for reminding me about this botanical garden....I've been meaning for months to drive over there and take pictures. I've never visited this one before.
Well done on your giant seedling! Glad it went to a good home :)
How long did it take to grow to that height... (Visions of importing a seed running through my head...)
