Sunday Morning at the Griffith Observatory

On this lovely, clear and sunny morning, we headed for the hills to look over LA Basin toward Palos Verdes from the Griffith Park Observatory and Planetarium (built in 1935, PWA Classical Moderne in exposed reinforced concrete, according to Gebhard & Winter in An Architectural Guidebook to Los Angeles).
And the view of the LA with Palos Verdes Peninsula way in the distance (hump in the center) and Catalina Island (hump to the right).

Beautiful views...i love seeing Catalina off in the distance, but my favorite is that monochrome with the view of the observatory putting everything in context.

Hi Tash, both fab shots, your top image of the observatory is stunning with the early morning sun shining on it! Beautifully composed.

Nice!!! I was fascinated by the description of what they did to renovate this a few years ago...they actually raised the whole building...amazing!!! This always makes me think of James Dean, Sal Mineo and Natalie Wood in Rebel Without a Cause!!!

So beautiful there. I like hiking to Dantes view from the parking lot. The murals in the rotunda are always worth stopping for.

btw: where have you been? bored with stray ponies, Albuquerque or....? I haven't seen you in the adjacents for over a month.
