Reflection in Long Beach, CA

On Ocean Blvd. (25 July 2011) - Photo "Textured" in PhotoShop
I've been on a prowl of two antique malls in Long Beach --- and I scored big!
A numbered print of "Island Girl" by Millard Sheets, a "Gravure originale de JOHNNY FRIEDLAENDER" (a small abstract 5-color etching - 1968 New Year's card for Madame R.G. Michel of the gallery on 17, quai Saint-Michel, Paris), and a beautiful color pencil drawings of a barn by Pigeon River, Tenneesee by Liam ?.
Photos will follow as soon as I am able to take decent ones.

The 787 is a tour of Boeing sites. Today, the awesome new airplane arrived at Long Beach for a 2-day stay. Addendum: Photo of the C-17 ("my airplane") and  Boeing 787 together in Long Beach.

Purdy Birdy ...

... was strolling (with owner) on Cherry Ave. in Long Beach and had me screech to a halt, park and run after them.
In my haste, I didn't get the name of either one of them, but the bird proved to be a sensational showman. The young man said that hundreds of people have photographed his buddy.

Long Beach Gothic

Ocean Boulevard with a bit of Long Beach skyline, looking north-east, on a rainy Sunday.
Photo effect is Antique Solarization.
Regarding the building: "The Villa Riviera is an icon of the Long Beach skyline. Based loosely upon the style of 16-century French chateaux, the design combines elements from the Gothic and Renaissance periods. At 15 stories, the Villa Riviera was for many years one of the Southland's tallest buildings, second only to Los Angeles City Hall. It is prominently sited at the jucnture of two major streets, Alamitos Avenue and Ocean Blvd." Date built: 1929; Architect: Richard D. King (Ref. Long Beach Architecture: The Unexpected Metropolis by Cara Mullio & Jennifer M. Volland)

Double Melodrama in Long Beach

At Shoreline Village in Long Beach.
We had lunch at a nearby restaurant today, and the rain and reflection made this pale green building very noticable. The Melodrama Theater website promises "Old Fashioned, live entertainment fun for the whole family, with Ragtime piano tunes in a Victorian Style theatre."

'J' is for Jet (abc Wednesday)

Airplanes are dear to my heart, having spent nearly 30 years working in the aircraft industry. This photo is from my archives, from a trip taken in February 2009, flying out of the convenient and un-hectic Long Beach Airport. Gotta jet, now.
Join the fun with 'J' at ABC Wednesday.
