'X' is for eXit (abc Wednesday)

Today is my boss' last day at work upon his retirement after 42 years with the company. He leaves a legacy on the C-17 program, of an exemplary structural engineer and an outstanding technical leader and director.

LA Co. Lifeguard Towers "Summer of Color" - AC (2/158) in Palos Verdes

Abalone Cove at sunset - 25 June 2010
"Summer of Color"- AC, Rancho Palos Verdes
Abalone Cove is one of two beaches in PV with a lifeguard station (the other is RAT beach). Jim, the friendly lifeguard who loves the beauty of this cove, was getting ready to close up. Jim didn't wish to be photographed but he was very happy to talk. He told me that he liked the new transformed "tower" colors just as much as the original pale blue (as seen HERE), and that the overall opinion of the "Summer of Color" has been positive.

Steely Sunset (SkyWatch & Weekend Reflection)

Photo by I., my son, from Haggerty's surf spot lookout in Palos Verdes Estates, 23 June 2010
It's overexposed, underexposed, does not consider the rule of thirds, has no leading lines...and works quite nicely for me.

"W" is for Watching Water with Watchtower (abc Wednesday) - Ave I

Lifeguard station (or tower) at Redondo Beach looking toward Palos Verdes Peninsula, 19 June 2010
All 158 L.A. County lifeguard stations (usually a pale blue color), from Palos Verdes to Zuma Beach (of Neil Young fame), have been transformed for the "Summer of Color" community art awareness project. They really look festive. In the fall, each will be painted the solid color of the railing.
I'm considering photographing all 158 of them...we'll see...
See lots more "W" posts on abc Wednesday.

Nikol Grbic for Fiesta Queen ... (100 Strangers)

Nikol is running for the Mary Star of the Sea Parish 2010 Fiesta Queen. She can't just rely on her winning smile but has the raise the most funds for the church to be chosen. Nikol very graciously posed for me while she was selling raffle tickets at the Croatian celebration in San Pedro. The Fiesta will be held from July 16th thru 18th.

SkyWatch from the enterance to the restaurant at Trump National in Rancho Palos Verdes, with a relaxed Bacchus? "faux fountain" (quote from Yelp.com). Reading the reviews on Yelp shows that no matter what one thinks of Mr. Trump, at least no one is neutral in their opinion.

"V" is for Vintage Vinyl (abc Wednesday)

My friend's neighbor was redoing the kitchen and ripped out this classic 60's vinyl (or maybe even linoleum) flooring. Not the best period in home decor, but I find the pattern very pleasing, in a nostalgic sort of way. Sort of like Courier font.
Join many more V's on ABC Wednesday.
Thanks PasadenaAdjacent, for the flooring post idea.

OREGON in PV (Weekend Reflection) - (Image Copyright of Palos Verdes Daily Photo)

Yeah, it's a lousy reflection post (can you identify the two minor ones?)... what I've been reflecting on is that I am misrepresenting the PV weather with all the blue skies posts. June Gloom (the marine layer encroaching onto the coast) is definitely with us in the mornings and in the late afternoons. Of course, the reference to Oregon in the title is based on the license plate. :) I'm just bummed I didn't get the street sign into the shot - Grayslake Rd.

The proposed project for an educational and animal adoption site is located next to the Interpretive Center (or the Whale Watching Station). Last night, at my book club meeting, we were all opposed to putting such a large structure here.

GOOD YEAR over Palos Verdes (SkyWatch Friday)

Earlier in the spring at sunset over the main library.
I never get tired of seeing the Good Year airship flying over the South Bay and usually scramble for my camera whenever I see it. Then I realized that on Saturday afternoons it cruises over the top of the peninsula. In the early '80s, my friend Tricia's father who was an aviation enthusiast in Ohio, arranged for us to have a ride in the blimp. It definitely was a memorable experience.
