An Afternoon in Manhattan Beach (4)

On a warm fall day, this was the view from Manhattan Beach pier. The brightly painted art panels on the lifeguard stations will be coming off at the end of the month.

Theme Day: Bright Colors

The LA County lifeguard stations, like this one in Palos Verdes at Abalone Cove, are decked out in "Summer of Color", panels painted by the children of Los Angeles.
The 1st day of every month is City Daily Photo community's Theme Day. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

LA Co. Lifeguard Towers "Summer of Color" - AC (2/158) in Palos Verdes

Abalone Cove at sunset - 25 June 2010
"Summer of Color"- AC, Rancho Palos Verdes
Abalone Cove is one of two beaches in PV with a lifeguard station (the other is RAT beach). Jim, the friendly lifeguard who loves the beauty of this cove, was getting ready to close up. Jim didn't wish to be photographed but he was very happy to talk. He told me that he liked the new transformed "tower" colors just as much as the original pale blue (as seen HERE), and that the overall opinion of the "Summer of Color" has been positive.

"W" is for Watching Water with Watchtower (abc Wednesday) - Ave I

Lifeguard station (or tower) at Redondo Beach looking toward Palos Verdes Peninsula, 19 June 2010
All 158 L.A. County lifeguard stations (usually a pale blue color), from Palos Verdes to Zuma Beach (of Neil Young fame), have been transformed for the "Summer of Color" community art awareness project. They really look festive. In the fall, each will be painted the solid color of the railing.
I'm considering photographing all 158 of them...we'll see...
See lots more "W" posts on abc Wednesday.
