Aircraft Carrier's Visit

One more photo from Cabrillo Beach/Bay, in San Pedro, of the mighty big USS Abraham Lincoln which was in Port of Los Angeles for Navy Days the last weekend in July.

That is one big, bad boy.

Aircraft carriers are majestic. My father served on a carrier for 3 years of his 20 year naval career. It was an experience that became a part of him for the rest of his life.

That is one big ship...much longer than the apartment building where I used to live, and probably has just as many people.

This brings back memories! I grew up near Mayport and we used to take field trips to the base in school and they let us climb all over those air craft carriers. I also love the way they decorated them with Christmas lights for the holidays!

How absolutely whopping! It's like a mini continent. Many years ago I took a boat trip to Capri from Naples harbour, and the US Mediterranean fleet was in harbour. We passed by a huge aircraft carrier with the sailors doing their morning exercises on deck.

Visit? Was it open to visit? It must be a fascinating thing!
Years ago there was one on Brazilian shores for joint maneuvres and I happened to be on a plane... When I first saw it from distance I thought it was a small island (and I recalled normally there hadn't been any island in that location...) until I eventually realized it was a carrier... :)
God bless you!
