Taken not in PV, but at The Living Desert Wildlife and Botanical Park in Palm Dessert, CA - this kid-owl was sitting on the volunteer's gloved hand and observing us. He looks like he was putting up with us and waiting to go back to his nap.
"The Western Screech Owl is a small, nocturnal, woodland Owl of western North America and is one of the west's more common Owls at lower elevations. The species name "kennicotti," was created to honour Robert Kennicott, an American explorer and naturalist (1835-1866). Originally, this bird was officially called 'Kennicott's Owl'. " [Ref. Wow, that's a wonderfully sharp and beautiful picture of this little owl! I'd never heard of Kennicotti owls before, so he's new to me.

Great close up. He almost looks like a stuffed owl.
To me the eyes have a human quality. Very eerie. Love your closeup - Margy
What a beauty. Here in Leeds, Yorkshire the city coat of arms features two owls.

You can't tell lies to face like that.
AWESOME photo! I showed it to my wife as she loves owls! She even makes a great owl imitation sound!
Excellent photo! He does look a little annoyed at being observed!
Owls have names! Who knew?
He looks absolutely soft and stroke-able, if it wasn't for that sharp beak.
Very striking photo.
