Window Display (Weekend Reflections)

"Culver... is that you?"
Artwork created by Moshe and Eddie Brakha, 2009. The window is on a side of of a paint store -- definitely in Culver City, CA.
Today is the closing day for LA Art Squad show...more info on my last week's HERE.
I took liberty in having the reflected light on the street count for James' Weekend Reflections.

Ride, Sally Ride (Skywatch Friday)

Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, turns 60 today. I so admired her when I watched her with the loose, curly hair floating in space. Thanks, Sally, for taking me along on a fantastic virtual ride.
I had a chance to hear a talk Ms. Ride gave 2 years ago to a mixed audiance of middle schoolers, educators, and scientists/ engineers, encouraging everyone to help girls to excel in math and science in the early grades.
The photo is of the Challenger memorial in Little Tokyo (Los Angeles) dedicated to the revered Col. El Onizuka, the 1st Japanese American astronaut selected for the space program, and who died in the 1986 Challenger accident.

"S" is for Street Art (abc Wednesday in Culver City, CA)...or New ART Kids in Town?

Art by Herakut (German artists Hera & Akut) can be found at crossroads of Washington Blvd. and National.) The murals are really eye-catching (yes, pun intended) and I did turn around to get a photo.

More info can be found on Culver City Times Blog and The Dirt Floor.

Looking for Fine Art? Victor Henderson's Early Work in Culver City

There is still time to catch Henderson's amazing drawings and the artifacts related to L.A. Fine Art Squad, exhibited through Saturday, May 28th at Cardwell Jimmerson Contemporary Art in Culver City.
Some time after the demise of LA Fine Art Squad, Victor Henderson partnered with Elizabeth Garrison and their murals grace various Southland locations, most recently HERE at Fire Station No. 5.
Petrea at Pasadena Daily Photo has a great post regarding the exhibit: Isle of Art.

Looking for a great photo from Palos Verdes?

...well, you can find it on today on Yankee-in-Belgrade Daily Photo. Super shot, "Bibi"!
As for me, I'll post this view of Redondo Beach from the PV hill which was a bit hazy while Yankee-in-Belgrade was visiting.
Coastline View from Palos Verdes Estates, May 2011
Today is just past the 3 year mark for PVDP... I started with another coastal view (Abalone Cove and Portuguese Bend) on Monday, May 19, 2008.

Golf Carts Wanted (Sunday Bridges)

"Bibi" inspired me to look for a Sunday Bridges post, and while there are so few bridges in PV, I remembered this one spanning a gully on the PV County Club golf course.

PVCC is a private course and pretty sparsely used on a Friday afternoon when we were there, so that a short wait for a cart to cross the bridge proved pointless.

Fire me up! (Weekend Reflections)

Interior and exterior of Sloopy's Beach Cafe - reflected
"Bibi" (of Yankee-in-Belgrade Daily Photo) and I cruised up the road to Manhattan Beach, and the fire pit drew me to Sloopy's (on Highland Ave. near Rosecrantz) where we had dessert and coffee.

For some terrific reflections, see James' Weekend Reflections.

Guess Who Came for a Visit?

Amy of Palos Verdes, CA and Bibi of Belgrade, Serbia enjoying the PV coastline
I finally got a change to meet my long time blogger friend "Bibi" of Yankee in Belgrade Daily Photo and of course the real Bibi. They are driving down the coast from Seattle and "Bibi" was so nice to come all the way down to PV to visit us. "Bibi" remembers the beaches and cliffs of Palos Verdes from her high school years, and it's fun to reminisce about how PV used to be.

A Day at LACMA (Weekend Reflections)

Cracked Egg (Red), 1994-2000, by Jeff Koons (BCAM at LACMA)
Broad Contemporary Art Museum has such a whimsical collection ... my friend L. and I had so much fun looking at the art and our reflections.

Portuguese Bend Beach Club (transformed)

The photo was a rather dull beige taken on an overcast day in May of 2008. This treatment with upped satuartion reminds me of old-fashioned painted postcards.
Same photo with funky Antique Solarization treatment.

If A Picture Is Worth a 1000 Words...

 ... what is a 1000 pictures worth?
According to Blogger, today is my 1000th post!
I took these photos today on our back patio. The unsightly cactus plant blossoms every May and produces these amazingly beautiful flowers, which are almost impossible to capture right.
Hope all the moms had a wonderful Mother's Day.

Saturday Afternoon on Bird Rock

The rocks are just south of Pt. Vicente. That afternoon, a pelican and a black bird with dashing white side tufts shared the rock and both gazed west.

Sehr Schön

At the lighthouse viewpoint...
My guess is that the family is German...I didn't hear them speak but I'm just going by a few, admitedly very stereotypical, signs. What do you think?
